A mystery woman who helped propel the Gurkha justice campaign into the spotlight is finally set to meet Absolutely Fabulous actress Joanna Lumley. Annie Watsham suggested Ms Lumley become directly involved in the Gurkhas' legal battle to secure settlement rights in Britain, while signing a campaign petition last August in her village of Cranbrook, near Tunbridge Wells in Kent. Gurkha Justice campaigner Peter Carroll took her chance remark on board, then contacted Ms Lumley, who had long supported the Gurkhas' cause and whose father was an officer in the Gurkha regiment.

Gurkhas.com would once again like to reiterate the importance of us all contributing towards this ... (Video added courtesy of Mr. Darren Rafferty and the Folkestone Gurkha Memorial Fund team to whom we are thankful)

The Gurkhas are fighting for Justice. Britain has had no greater friends than the Gurkhas. They have served all across the world in the defence of our Country for nearly 200 years. Over 45,000 died in the two World Wars as part of the British Army. They are still fighting in the British Army today. You may have seen in the media that they are fighting in Parliament and the Courts. Step by step, things are getting better - but there is a long way to go (Joanna Lumley)
Sign this petition for "the Labour Government to ensure that Gurkhas who served in the British Army before 1 July 1997 are paid pensions equal to those of all other soldiers serving in the British Army before that date"
