"Work hard, play hard" they say. Yet, how time flies by! It has been over a year since the Nepalese staff at Frimley Park Hospital last had a group social outing. Therefore, on Saturday 8th November 2008, they ensured that everyone took time off work in the evening, just so that they could enjoy a much-deserved rest and fun-filled event in each other's company. Here are some photos of the evening that the ladies would like to share with the wider Nepalese community. (photos courtesy of Mr. Milan Tamu) (All photos courtesy of Mr. Milan Tamu)

But for the past two years Mr Rai, who now trains soldiers at Imphal Barracks, has had to endure abuse from a small group of local youths, who throw stones and eggs at his house and have racially abused him. The most recent incidents were on Monday and Thursday this week.

Middlesex University, London, has vowed to lower tuition fees for the children of Gurkhas to show its support for their cause. They will now pay the same amount as UK rather than international students, which could reduce their costs by up to 65 per cent. Deputy vice-chancellor and director of finance Melvyn Keen said: “Whilst our new policy only affects a few of our current students, we are very pleased to be able to offer them the opportunity to study at Middlesex as ‘home’ students in the future. “Their fathers have served Britain with fierce loyalty and it is only fair to offer them the same opportunities as are afforded to the children of other British servicemen.”

Ex-Gurkhas, who have Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK but who do not receive a State Pension may be able to claim Pension Credit and Winter Fuel Payments. (this info kindly forwarded by Mr. Alex Crawford)
The Gurkhas are fighting for Justice. Britain has had no greater friends than the Gurkhas. They have served all across the world in the defence of our Country for nearly 200 years. Over 45,000 died in the two World Wars as part of the British Army. They are still fighting in the British Army today. You may have seen in the media that they are fighting in Parliament and the Courts. Step by step, things are getting better - but there is a long way to go (Joanna Lumley)
Sign this petition for "the Labour Government to ensure that Gurkhas who served in the British Army before 1 July 1997 are paid pensions equal to those of all other soldiers serving in the British Army before that date"
British citizenship for all ex-Gurkhas. Sign this petition - tell all your friends and tell them to tell their friends.
Submitted by Ross Pritchard – Deadline to sign up by: 26 November 2008
