The long wait for radio BGWS maybe finally over, as 'all the major obstacles have now been taken care of', according to the Media Director Major (retd) Sonam T. Sherpa during a recent tour given to Gurkhas.com at BGWS Gurkha Bhawan, Farnborough.
He also highlighted how his team of volunteer supporters have worked extremely hard to overcome the multiple hurdles along the way and are now ready for the eventual launch scheduled for 24 September 2011. Initially, the station can be heard on AM band 1179, which he denotes as 'a soft launch' of six hours broadcast from 1200 to 1800 hours every day. Accordingly, the eventual goal is to extend this to 12 hours or more dependent on the support and popularity of the station amongst the Nepalese diaspora, and to further extend the broadcast on internet as well.
According to BGWS Chairperson Maj. (retd) Tikendra Dal Dewan, the fully official 'big bang' opening is planned for Jan to Feb 12, with a VVIP to officially inaugurate Radio BGWS.
Once on air, the BGWs Gurkha Radio team would welcome comments from the audience on quality of reception in their areas.
They are also requesting for additional interested volunteer members to work as part of the team (trainings will be provided). For related enquiries, here's the contact number: 01252 371341.
The gurkhas.com team would like to wish BGWS Gurkha Radio the very best in this endeavour.
