THE GURKHA WELFARE TRUST

JOB VACANCY

GURKHA WELFARE ADVISER

The Gurkha Welfare Trust aims to relieve poverty and distress among Gurkha ex-servicemen and their dependants. The British Government has recently announced substantial changes to the immigration and settlement arrangements for ex-Gurkhas and their dependants. These changes will result in substantial numbers of ex-Gurkhas seeking to settle in UK. It is anticipated that many will need welfare and other support to enable them to establish and maintain themselves in this country.

The Trust is to respond to this emerging need in UK by establishing, with MOD, a joint Gurkha Welfare Centre in Aldershot. The Centre's primary purpose will be the coordination of welfare and other support for ex-Gurkhas and their dependants in UK who are in need. The Centre will work closely with Government Departments, Service Charities and other agencies engaged in the delivery of welfare and other support to ex-Gurkhas and their dependants.

The Trust wishes to recruit a Gurkha Welfare Adviser with specific responsibility, as a representative of the Trust, for the detailed coordination of requests for assistance from ex-Gurkhas and their dependants in UK. He/she will be required to liaise closely with MOD Staff located in the Centre, and representatives of Service Charities and other agencies directly engaged in the delivery of welfare support to ex-Gurkhas and their dependants. His/her duties will evolve as the need in UK becomes more apparent.

This is a new and very important post that stands at the very heart of a major new initiative for the Trust: the provision of welfare support to ex-Gurkhas and their dependants in UK. The role will be based at the Gurkha Welfare Centre, Salisbury. The Gurkha Welfare Adviser is required by 1 Jan 12 or sooner if possible.

I would like to be a part of this community, my grandfather (Sgt Ran Bahadur Limbu) served Your Highness during hours of wars and he still tells me those stories. I love to be a part of it.

Despite this, there are thousands of companies that have been struggling to find employees to fill their positions.
