On Saturday, 12th November, Gurkhas.com team members attended an event organised by a pioneering Nepalese youth (Lex Limbu) and his friends at a hidden treasure amongst Nepalese foodies-Nepalese Tandoori Restaurant, located at Shepherd's Bush Market area (very close to the tube station). Always enthusiastic and dedicated to supporting our youths in their endeavours, Gurkhas.com had accepted an invitation for the private screening of 'Lex in Nepal'.

It turned out to be one of those rare group events/community gatherings where every minute spent seemed well worth it. Lex Limbu, aka Saujan Pandhak Limbu, is only 19 years old and takes extreme pride in his Nepalese heritage. He is also the son of an ex-Gurkha officer. It was great to see both his parents at the event, so proud and so supportive. Words maybe insufficient to describe our holistic feelings on the entire extremely positive event, but to sum it up, It did open up our eyes to what our youths were capable of, how much promise they hold. To whet your appetite, you may have to watch the short video clips entitled 'Lex in Nepal' once they go on You Tube (projected to take place by next week).

In the mean time, we bring you this short highlight of the private screening and a teaser on what to expect. We are thankful to Miss Sarala Thapa, BFBS Gurkha Radio Yuva Vibes RJ and Miss UK Nepal 2010 contestant, and  our very own videographer Mr. Maniram Rai for helping us bring this to our viewers. Both young people themselves, kudos to them too for their tireless work and passion in bringing out the very best whilst serving the community.

But most of all, VERY WELL DONE to Lex and his young friends for utilising their summer break in Nepal during Visit Nepal Year 2011 to highlight our beautiful country Nepal from angles that we know exist and need to be highlighted, yet has never had that opportunity before. Well done too for exuding so much positivity, pride as well as aspiration and hope for the future- for themselves, for their circle of friends, community, and their country. We recommend eveyone who loves Nepal and also those who doubt our youths' ability, insight, analytical skills and sense of purpose in life to watch Lex in Nepal video clips. Hopefully it will allay all doubts and help us come together in supporting and encouraging our youths in their positive work.

Who says then, that its always older people who talk sense and young ones have to listen and follow?Who says that our youths dont hold promise or wont ever change?

And to all our youths out there who think you can't do the same, just remember, "it usually takes one person to make a difference, everyone should try" (JFK's words). In short, if you try, you too maybe that person. All you need is vision, commitment, being surrounded by positive people, always striving for the best and never giving up! GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUR YOUTHS OUT THERE.

To us as parents and guardians out there, perhaps it is time for us to reflect on whether education only is good enough. We thanked Lex's parents at the event for giving him 'shikcha sahit sanskar'. Maybe that's why youths like him do have the time of their lives yet are wise enough to not go astray; perhaps we need to incorporate combination of those two qualities in our own children's upbringing. Also, perhaps we should start appreciating and encouraging our kids in honing their individual special skills and abilities because so often, we 'kill' their ambitions and self-belief by us dictating what they should become or how they are faring in comparison to their counterparts, academically. If we don't, then we will continue to help 'manufacture' and mould another 'employee' for the big industries, not help foster budding talents become tomorrow's leading entrepreneurs and inventors. Between these two, who has made the biggest difference in the course of history of mankind?
