Dear Gurkha Children and Young People,

There continues to be many comments about our youths in host communities with increasing Gurkha Nepalese settlements, mostly sweeping generalisations based on sporadic crimes involving Gurkha/Nepalese youths (which we should nonetheless be ashamed of, should try and refrain from in future, and try to establish and work towards alleviating the factors contributing to such incidents).

So much blood, sweat, life, limbs and youths have been lost by your parents, grandparents and forefathers to give you a proud legacy. In recent years, much efforts to ensure ex-Gurkhas their right to live in UK was also to ensure better opportunities and better future for their children, i.e. you. Majority of you have been able to to utilise the opportunities and are showing great promise for the future. To you, we wish well and hope to highlight your achievements in future. To the small minority who are struggling to adjust to life in UK, please do not fret, do not get into wrong groups who can lead you astray. If you are struggling, being manipulated, feel threatened, bullied, left out or not listened to, or are being abused, please reach out. You do not have to/should not feel forced to endure it all in silence. We do not have many outreach workers working with the community's youths, hence there is limited chance of anyone knowing about or listening to your struggles and/or sufferings unless if you reach out. By reaching out, you may find that many out there are actually willing to listen (often in confidentiality) and offer or direct you to appropriate support, to help get you on your feet. Use the help, try to make long-term plans as we are here for the long-run; take small steps at a time all the while keeping focused on your long-term goals and like so many others, you too can do it. Rise above temptations, short-term quick-fix options and aggravation(s) in all shapes and forms as any crime-related records and convictions will be hard to erase. Remember that one bad move can tarnish us all, while bringing you and your family much grief.

Conversely, your improvements and later achievements can bring us all happiness, not least to you and your family. By finding the time and inclination to listen, understand and support each other and by working together -including with our communities where we have settled, we can all help build a better,
stronger future for ourselves, our own community and our host communities. Let there be the whole nation once again behind Gurkhas, with each of them saying: "I am proud to have supported the Gurkhas (and their immediate dependents) settle in UK". END OF LECTURE (SORRY IF YOU DIDNT NEED IT). TAKE CARE, LOOK AFTER ONE ANOTHER, BEST OF LUCK, AND WISH YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012 !

Respected visitors, Thank you for your constructive comments. Let us also not lose sight of the fact that despite enormous challenges, majority of our youths are upholding our prestigious name, culture and heritage through their admirable determination to overcome adversities, make best use of available life chances and achieve in life. The rest need our support and understanding, as highlighted by some of our young(er) commentators. While we join hands in supporting ALL our youths towards fulfilling their potential, let us remember that such resolve and the first steps should often start from the homefront. Hence, let us ask ourselves first and foremost, 'are we fulfilling our expected roles as good, authoritative parents'?

This is so disappointing think to hear from our children from UK, I couldn't believe that this is happening in the UK too. But who to blame our children first or to us parents. Do we know what our children are up to. Who they are learning this culture from. I don't think from the British. We are so busy in our work that we could not able to give them a time together. I am sorry if I offended you. Jai Nepal.

It is very sad to hear that these third generation Gurkha youths, whose fathers and forefathers fought so hard for their children and are still fighting today for equal pension to go around in London tubes rails and ruin all Gurkhas reputation as being honest, hardworking and devoted to duty and work. If they have a hard time coping to the easy lifestyles in UK then go back to Nepal and start from zero. You know what life in Nepal is. Hope this never happens again as we ex-Gurkhas in Toronto, Canada are deeply worried about these troublesome worries. Good luck and all the best to the majority of the Gurkha communities who have shown great success.

I am so sad to hear that what Mr. Rana had seen in the train. I think they are very lucky to be grown up in the country like UK and being together with their parents. At least they should show humble character that their father and forefather had shown to the UK people.Though I am in Nepal and my all parents are in UK I feel proud to be one of the Gurkhas son. But after hearing this kind of things from our gurkhas children I felt ashamed. Please do something to those children who have degraded the value of what our father and forefather had done.

Crowded Underground train ..bunch of young girls and boys total 6 (aged 15-18)boarded, after a while this bunch becomes a annoying matter for rest of the passenger due to their loud , rude swearing and showoff english language. Obiviously their dress up was second to none. Standing aside all I was thinking "Bhagawan ko kirpa le yo bhai bahini haroo yesto kura kamsekam Nepali bhasa ma bolidiye hune thiyo". Its a blessing oppurtunity for our childrens being in such country like UK, but do they realise this OR did their parents had dictate them ? We dont only have to show our courage in battlefield, how about in sports, medical, academic and commercial achievements ?

As a resident of Medway (Kent) & ex-Royal Navy, I have never heard of Gurkha children/youths causing any kind of trouble. The Nepalese community in Medway is held in high regard & justly so. I would like to think that those young Gurkha offspring who find it difficult to occupy themselves should be encouraged to join Scouting or Cadet (Sea, Army or Air) organisations in their vicinity. We have had Gurkha children in our Cadet Unit previously & thy have proven to be reliable, helpful & smart young people.

There are a handful of youths who have committed themselves to their community, but sadly enough the rest need reminders like this one.... what a waste of energy, resource, talent living in a developed nation like UK and all you do is Facebooking and party..
