Cllr. Alex Crawford JP has shared with us welcome news that he has kindly donated £2000 to 'Maddat Samuha', the Gurkha Nepalese older people's self-help group in Rushmoor. The cheque was presented to Amanda Lee, Co-Founder of Nepalese Help to complete donation of £2000 from the Mayor of Rushmoor's Charities Fund 2011-12. The donation was to enable the charity to benefit people of Nepalese origin now living in the UK, and in particular to work towards their integration into mainstream society and to assist them to adapt to their communities.

The Ex-Mayor of Rushmoor Cllr. Alex Crawford JP is already a prominent and popular elected face amongst the Gurkha Nepalese people in Rushmoor. He is noted for his continuous support and admiration for Gurkhas through good times as well as through some of the most testing times in inter-community relations in Rushmoor in recent years.

Amongst his other noteworthy contributions in relation to the Gurkha Nepalese community, Cllr. Alex Crawford can be accredited as the founding member of facebook page 'We Love the Gurkhas'. His encouraging work with our Rushmoor-based inspirational youth group Naya Yuva (further supported by the Rushmoor Nepalese Community executive committee members and Rushmoor Council) is also praiseworthy as it finally helped promote our collective youths' commendable resilience, aspirations, achievements and involvement in meaningful social causes despite facing numerous challenges themselves, including living in (what was then) an increasingly hostile and suspicious outside community. The joint endeavour helped bring about changes in locals' generalised negative perception of our youths and along with other key groups such as United Rushmoor, initiated a much-needed spark for open dialogues as well as collaborative work aimed at building positive inter-community relations.
