LET US JOIN HANDS WITH THE EMBASSY OF NEPAL, OUR YOUTHS AND VOLUNTEERS IN PROMOTING OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY NEPAL AND OUR RICH CULTURAL HERITAGE AT THE LONDON MELA 2012 !!!
In 2003, the first London Mela took place, supported by the Mayor of London and produced by Ealing Council. It attracted 60,000 people with more than 90,000 attending the following year - proving how successful and popular a pan-London mela could be. Now an established highlight in the capital's cultural calendar, the London Mela is an artistically led celebration of Asian culture and creativity, inspired by South Asia and the Diaspora.
For the third year running Nepal will once again be highlighted at the o2 London Mela where popular bands such as Hadez, Haami and solo musicians Shreya Rai and Jerusha Rai from the Nepalese community in the UK will represent their nation to the thousands of attendees. The Embassy of Nepal has been involved in promoting Nepal at the London Mela since 2010. The free event will also have live cultural performances from dhol to our very own traditional Naumati Baja. Several Nepali organisation groups will be presenting traditional Nepali dances from Kauda dance to the Limbu Chyabbrung dance. Hoping to attract extra attention we will see our current Miss UK Nepal Gaumaya Gurung in a unique avatar presented on top of an elephant in a style that will compete with the carnivals held in Latin America.
His Excellency Dr Suresh Chandra Chalise is scheduled to inaugurate the Nepal stall at 1300 hours, media personnel are kindly requested to arrive by 1230PM.
If you are keen on exploring your own culture and traditions whilst also keen on educating yourself on others cultures then Gunnersbury Park is your destination on 19th August from 1PM-9PM.
