Gurkhas.com wishes to thank Mary Blanche (KCC), Cheriton Library, Community Development Librarians Ellie Thomas and Elizabeth Taylor, Mark Connorton from the Shepway Volunteers Centre, the Folkestone Nepalese Community and its Chairpersons (outgoing and recently elected) Gopal Giri and Harkaraj Rai, Mr. Bijay Hitan, Mr. Chandiraj Rai and the invited volunteer groups -including representatives from Housing, Benefits Agency, Community Police, Education (CFE) and Gurkha Welfare Centre (Salisbury and Aldershot)- for their invaluable support in making this event a productive one for the main target participants- our venerable elderly ex-Gurkha veterans living in and around Folkestone, Kent.
Over 70 ex-Gurkha veterans (and spouses) were able to access valuable support and advice pertinent to promotion of their welfare and well-being in UK. As planned earlier, two further advice sessions will now be rolled out in Ashford and Maidstone soon, in close liaison with the community leaders from these two areas. Could members of these two communities let their community leaders know which issues are of most concern to them so that arrangements can be made as far as possible to accommodate advice from relevant personnel with the view of addresing those concerns.
For older veterans in and around Reading, may we exhort you and your family members to approach the Forgotten British Gurkhas Charity for welfare concerns and needs, as they are more than willing to offer support and advice.
