British Army Chief General David Richards returned home after his six day Nepal visit at the invitation of Chief of Army Staff Chhatra Man Singh Gurung on Wednesday morning.
General Richards participated in various programmes of the British Gurkhas Nepal including its recruitment procedure for the British Army in Pokhara.
General Richards paid courtesy visits to President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Defence Minister Bidhya Devi Bhandari and his Nepali counterpart, General Gurung.
The army chief, who was elevated to the army’s highest rank in 2009, had already visited Nepal in the past as the Colonel Commandment of Brigade of Gurkhas and the chairman of the Gurkha Welfare Trust. (source: THT Online)

UK army chief meets President, Defence Minister
Visiting UK Army Chief General Sir David Julian Richards met President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, who is the Supreme Commander of the Nepal Army, and Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari separately on Tuesday.
During the half-hour long meeting at Shitwal Niwas, Richards presented a report on the current status of the Gurkhas in the British army to President Yadav.
According to the President's press advisor, Rajendra Dahal, the meeting was simply a courtesy call from the UK army chief.
Soon after meeting the President, the UK army chief met Defence Minister Bhandari at the latter's office in Singha Durbar.
The meeting dwelled on the mutual cooperation between the two countries, including military affairs, it is learnt. Resumption of British military aid to Nepal was also discussed during the meeting.
Richards is known to have assured the Defence Minister that a taskforce would be formed after his return to UK, which will come up with suggestion on the resumption of military aid to Nepal.

Issuing a press statement Monday, Nepal Army's (NA) Directorate of Public Relation (DPR) said General Richards will pay a courtesy call on President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at the President's Office in Shital Niwas on Friday morning and then call on Defense Minister Bidhya Devi Bhandari later in the afternoon.
Thereafter, he is scheduled to attend a Wreath Laying ceremony at "Bir Smarak" at Army grounds in Tudhikhel and receive a guard of honour from Nepal Army.
The same day, the British Army chief will meet his Nepalese counterpart COAS Chhatra Man Singh Gurung and attend a dinner to be hosted in his honor in the evening.
On Saturday, he will visit the training centre for NA's peace keeping missions in Panchkhal of Kavre. The same day he will leave for Pokhara to attend various programmes organized by the British Gurkha Camp, the main Gurkha recruiting center.
On Sunday afternoon he will return to Kathmandu and meet Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal later in the evening.
General Richards is scheduled to attend various programmes organized by the British Gurkha Nepal Society, Area Welfare Center including the ex-British Gurkha soldiers in Nepal on Monday.
General Richards will return to Britain on Tuesday.
The British Army chief's visit to Nepal follows the one made by the Indian Army chief Deepak Kapoor last month during which time the latter was conferred with the honorary title of General of Nepal Army. (source:nepalnews.com)
