SUCCESS STORY OF A GURKHA DAUGHTER

      RAJINA GURUNG -

Rajina was born to Arti and Min Bahadur Gurung an ex Queen’s Gurkha Engineers clerk who had served only 10 years and settled in UK with his young family in 1991.

Rajina is the second daughter, who came to England with her parents in her tender age of three.   After her completion of 11 GCSEs from Grammar school in Kingston upon Thames and with 3 ‘A’ levels from Esher College in Surrey, she went to study English degree at University of Leicester.  Because of her involvement in music in her school days as a lead guitarist in school girls band ‘Des the tiny child’, she was actively involved as Music Editor for the university.

Rajina graduated with BA Hons in English from University of Leicester in 2009.  She is now employed by HART MEDIA as a PR officer.  Her job roles involve public relation, attending ‘gigs’ - interviewing and selecting bands, and a quite a lot of travelling.

Rajina’s  older sister Tanya,  who had graduated  from university of Bristol and University of North Carolina, USA with MSc Hons in Chemistry in 2007,  is working as Scientist for  the British Government in the civil service,  and younger brother Ricky  now in ‘A ‘ level.

A SCIENTIST GURKHA DAUGHTER FOR BRITISH GOVERNMENT

TANYA GURUNG

Tanya Gurung was born in Bachchha, Dun Danra in Parvat district of West Nepal on 23 July 1985.  She came to the UK in 1991 after her parents, Arti and Min Bahadur Gurung, had settled in England, following her father’s 10-year career in the British Army, which he served as a Corporal (clerk) with the Queens Gurkha Engineers..

Tanya won a scholarship to the prestigious private Putney High Girls School, in London, and received 11 GCSEs and 3 A levels.  She went on to study Chemistry at the University of Bristol from 2003 to 2007 and in her final year attended the University of North Carolina, USA, and received her MSc Honours degree.

She is currently employed as a Scientist with the Food Standards Agency, a government department.  Her role includes conducting chemical research and analysis on food safety and representing the British Government at conferences within Europe and the USA.

Tanya’s sister, Rajina, graduated with a BA Honours in English from the University of Leicester in 2009, and is now employed as a PR executive with Hart Media.  Her brother, Ricky, is studying for his A levels at Ashcombe School, Dorking.

Whilst undoubtedly very proud to share Tanya and Rajina's achievements and wishing them the very best for the future, the Gurkhas.com team would like to invite more success stories of Gurkha children so that the younger ones can be inspired towards similar successes. To motivate our younger generation towards greater positive outcomes, all youth articles (except coverage of marriage ceremonies) are uploaded on Gurkhas.com totally free of charge.

Impressive to say the least! Wow!  You must be so proud.  No doubt your son will be following in their footsteps having had such sterling examples in his sisters.  What a testament to you.  They are both beautiful too!
I like the fact that part of Regina’s remit is to attend live gigs. Clearly your parenting skills have paid off.  It was an absolute pleasure reading about Tanya & Regina. I look forward to reading about your son’s achievements.
