Khukuri found
With the success of the recent Gurkha campagin reminded me of a Khukuri which my father found a few years ago and has been sat in a box in the garage ever since. I would now like to try and trace the owner, or his family, and return the Khukuri to its reightful owner.
Inscribe on the front:
PRESENTED TO CAPTAIN CHANNER BY SUB.BALBIR GHARTTI.
Any assistance would be appreciated

Re: Khukuri found
Channer is not a Nepali surname. This khukuri must have been presented to him by subdar Gharti(nepali). May be Capt. Channer was a friend of your father. Good Luck in your search for the rightful owner.

Re: Khukuri found
If the Khukuri was gifted to your father then, keep it with you.

Saw your notice regarding Khukuri found and I would like to get in touch with you if possible.
My great grandfather was a captain G N Channer who served with the 1st Ghurkas in the 1870 ties and I wonder if it could be him. And I trying to get more information about him
Best regards

I have some information gleaned from geneology research which includes a little on the Channers who served in the Indian Army. I am also in contact with a retired writer, Gordon Channer, who has built up a much more extensive geneological database and would be a good person to contact for more information.
By coincidence a work colleague is also a member of this part of the Channer family and his great grandfather was Colonel Bernard Channer DSO (1846-1916) of 2nd (Q.V.O) Rajput Light Infantry and his grandfather was Major Guy Channer DSO (1884-1956) of 14th (KGO) SIKHS.
There is a testimonial to Captain George Nicholas Channer VC which was published in the London Gazette in 1876 and is also on gurkha.com. He reached the rank of General and was also a CB.
Let me know if you would like contact details for either Gordon Channer or my colleague.

Re: Khukuri found
I am writing regarding the found Khukuri. It was just by chance I was browsing the website with my 91 year old Grandfather, Colonel GD Anderson, who is the Grandson of General G N Channer.
It is with great regret that he has lost touch with the Channer side of the family having been posted to South Africa and India with The KOSB's during the Second World War.
In his 92 nd year he is as ever inquisitive and would so like to make contact with the Channers,
My contact details are: Olivia Anderson, o.anderson2526@student.leedsmet.ac.uk,
My grandfather would so so appreciate to make any contact with any extended family members and perhaps be able to help fill in some gaps,
Kind Regards,

Re: Khukuri found
Olivia and Nick
I have contacted Gordon Channer and asked if he could establish the living decendants of General GN Channer from his geneology records. I have also given him a link to this website and your email addresses. I hope that he can help us on both counts; the most appropriate person to inherit the khukuri and Channer relatives of Olivia's grandfather.
Regards
Guy Channer

Re: Khukuri found
Guy,
Thanks for taking on this quest and linking the relevant parties. Did you receive my email with the attached photographs of the Kukuri back in November?
Olivia,
Hopefully the conatcs above will help you in finding your extended family.
Please keep me updated and I can then hopefully return the Khukuri to the family!
