Lieutenant-Colonel Ernest Bisset

I am trying to find information about my grandfather, Ernest Bisset, who died in 1950 before I was born.  I am told that he was connected with the Gurkhas at some stage in his military career.

I know that he was a doctor, and was present in the first world war at the Dardanells, trying to operate on wounded soldiers while the ship he was on shuddered from explosions, and I know that he was later significant in the British colonial governemnt of Burma, acting as Director General of Public Health or something like that (which explains why my father was born in Rangoon in 1923).  But I only found out last week that there was a connection with the Gurkhas, and I would be grateful if you could let me know anything about him from any records that you can access, such as the dates of his service, his rank, and any action he was involved in.  For example, he was "mentioned in despatches" by Winston Churchill, but I don't know when or why.

I realise that you are not a public information service or family tree consultancy, but I keep hearing snippets that make me think I should be very proud of my grandfather and if you could fill me in that would be wonderful.

Many thanks

Simon Bisset

Re: Lieutenant-Colonel Ernest Bisset
Have you tried the Headquarters, Brigade of Gurkhas, Sir? They may be able to signpost you to the right Ministry of Defence office for any records. Wish you good luck in your search!
