Old Friends

Gentlemen,

I have many happy memories of the 2nd Bn 2nd Gurkha Rifles.

2/2 GR took over from us in Long Jawe in 1966. I later met up with the Bn again at RMA Sandhurst in 1975/76 where they provided the Demonstration Company - the Bn being stationed at Church Crookham.

Particular friends were CSM BelBahadur Gurung and his cousin C/Sgt PremBahadur Gurung. BelBahadur and a couple of his soldiers visited me at my home in Inverness after I left Sandhurst.. We had a memorable evening at the Lochardil Hotel where the Highland Malt flowed freely!  I attempted to produce an authentic Gurkha curry (learned at Sandhurst under the tutelage of another friend  -  Sgt Julhendra Gurung - who I believe came from Darjeeling). Alas my clumsy culinary attempt was not a success though Bel' and his men, being Gurkha gentlemen, bravely fought their way through the meal!

I unfortunately lost track of those good friends over the years and often wonder what became of them. I'm now living in the USA and would be delighted to hear from them.

So Bel, Prem', Jules..... if you're 'on-line' get in touch!

Best wishes,

Jim

Re: Old Friends
the best bet to find a way of tracing any Gurkha is to go (or write, if they are prepared to give you the address) to the Pension Paying office in Pokhara/Kathmandu and ask if the poor bloke is still drawing his pension and if so from which address.  then you can possibly visit them there although many of them may have already moved to the UK (if they have any connection to the modern Brigade of Gurkhas with their offsprings)  in which case they could be traceable from one of many ethnic community organisations (i.e., Gurungs from Tamu Dhee, Magars from Magar Sangh, Kirati from Kirat Rai Y etc).
