Lt (Hon) Tul Bahadur Pun VC
Namaste
Like very many other non-Gurkhas, I was delighted when this gallant gentleman was eventually allowed to come and settle in the UK. It was a disgrace that he was turned down in the first place.
I am hoping that someone can tell me if he is now well settled and is being treated with the respect he deserves. Naturally, I know that his Gurkha brothers and sisters will be doing everything possible to make his retirement happy and comfortable, but how is he being treated by the wider non-Gurkha community?
Is he now in better health and receiving all the care and attention he deserves from the NHS and all the other government agencies?
Lastly, when referring to him, how does he prefer to be addressed? As ‘Lt Pun’, ‘Mr Pun’ or just ‘Pun VC’. I would be very sad if it was considered that I had been less than properly respectful.
If anybody can shed some light on the current situation (either here or to my email address below), I would be most grateful.
With very best wishes
Nigel Cory

Re: Lt (Hon) Tul Bahadur Pun VC
It was indeed a disgrace, an utter shame, a toal humiliation to what this old man had to go through to claim his right. No one else more deserving than this Great HERO, the bravest of the brave. It is because of heroes like Hon. Lt Pun and our soldiers' courage that we get to enjoy the freedom today. Anyway, to answer your question, I think he is still in the UK. The last I heard was that he was undergoing medical treatment related to some heart condition. And there too, his initial care was rejected because he did not have "proper paperworks". You could get more information on our Hero VC Pun from the British Gurkha Welfare Org located in Farnborough. Thank you for your genuine concern and your contribution to our freedom.

Re: Lt (Hon) Tul Bahadur Pun VC
We refer to this legend of a man as Tul Bahadur Pun VC in conversations. In his presence, depending on our age-group, we call him Baje (grandfather), or Buwa/Ba (father). You may refer to him as Lt. Tul Bahadur PUn VC.
Unless my Gurkha friends feel otherwise !
Regards,
Tulsi

Thank you gentlemen for your kind replies . I have since heard that in Nepal he is referred to as VC Sahib. I think this sounds even more respectful.

Re: Lt (Hon) Tul Bahadur Pun VC
I have also seen on Youtube that he has now had an operation to restore his sight. However, it says nether he nor Mrs Pun can speak enough English and they would dearly wish that their daughter could also come to England to interpret for them.
Does anybody know if any progress has been made towards this?

Re: Lt (Hon) Tul Bahadur Pun VC
I dont know if he requested for allowing his children to stay with him for the sole purpose of interpretation while receiving medical care. He is now, 86-87, right? Any frail elderly will highly benefit the active presence of thier children in their lives @ around this particular age and time. So, my guess is he was specifically requesting for a caregiver and in this case, his very own daughter.
